You need to get up above on those ledges with your tool. After you float up there then you need to go to the end and wait for the snake to go over the holes on the ground. When the snake is over these holes then walk over the pressure plates that shoot the spikes up. The spikes will go through the snake. You need to do this a couple of times and then the snake will die.
