January 21 I wrote an ode
To jackets yet unworn.
The tale has come full circle now
And so this poem's born.

T'was Friday came, no U.P.S.
I had to leave for work.
They showed just after I had gone.
I felt like such a jerk.

On Saturday, they don't drop off.
"We're closed" -you can't pick up.
I passed the weekend restlessly,
Tried to think of other stuff.

But waiting's hard, impatient man,
For the jacket I did seek.
I'd often try to calm myself,
Count to ten... in Greek.

So today, an end has come,
An end to jacket waits.
And none too soon, it made me ill,
A bowl-full of bad dates.

The great brown truck and in the back
All wrapped in Sarge's tape.
Soon I'd have my goat in hand.
For it there's no escape.

An open box, a treasure chest.
I held my prize up high.
The color was exactly right.
Here's kudos on the dye!

Then I checked upon the grain,
You know it's near my heart.
Blessed with a bright-sunny day
The sleeves were where I'd start.

For joy! The goat had done the trick.
Fine grain, just-right amount.
Up and down and twist and turn
Small pebbles I could count.

What about the fit and finish?
Eight stitches to the inch.
This baby's sure to stand the test
If I get in a pinch.

So color's great and grain is right.
This thing's as tough as nails.
It took me several crash and burns.
Brave raider never fails.

So if you're thinking U.S. Wings
I thought you'd like to hear it.
To use the words of nemesis
Roy Batty, "That's the spirit!"

I'm pleased with how the saga ends.
I'm glad to share the story.
My wish to all you Indy fans,
The fortune and the glory!
