preventing holes in your ROTLA hat

I read somewhere that when your hat is put on/removed from
your head it should not be handled by the front pinch of the
crown, but rather, taken from both sides of the brim with two
hands to avoid the felt in the crown from getting worn and prone
to holes. Apparently that when the felt is creased as in the
Raiders pinch, it can be very distreesing to the felt. Is this true or
just an Urban Legend?
