: : Shawnkara,

: : I was in contact with a guy awhile ago who made his own as well, and I asked the same question...he was of the opinion that they are sewn down, and made his so...and I agree with how they look in the film, all wrinkly along the edges..

: : Good luck. Let us know how it turns out.....I have been trying to talk my super-sewing wife into trying to build me one as well.

: : : I'm trying to replicate the shirt. Are the pleats that run down the front functional pleats, or are they sewn to the body at the edges and just there for looks? Looking at the way the edges of them are wrinkled in 'Raiders' it seems they are sewn to the body, as this is the same characteristic taken on by the button hole facing after you wash a cotton shirt a few times. Input is greatly appreciated!

I have a Noel Howard shirt and I also had a seamstress make me a shirt before the Howard shirts were available. The pleats are not simply strips of material sewn onto the front of the shirt. They are the shirt breasts themselves folded and top-stitched down to the front.
