: Almost every shoe and boot I have ever owned has been gusseted at least half way up the tongue. Besides helping to keep the tongue in place this also helps keep dirt, stickers etc., out of the shoe/boot.
: For some reason this has been neglected on the Alden boot. Leaving the rough ground function of this boot suspect in my humble opinion. Flash.
