I'm not gonna do this, but would scratching a tic-tac-toe type pattern on the ball of the foot do any good? I've seen on talk shows where some actors have scratched grooves like this on the bottoms of their smooth-soled shoes.

It probably don't matter to them, seeing as $200 shoes are like a pair of flip-flops to the average shmuck.
