: Yeah I live in Minnesota, so winter lasts about 6 months every year. Well today was the first time I wore my Aldens outside, and I was dissappointed. I slipped around like Kramer on rollerskates. Now I know it was a little icy out, but I was out earlier with tennis shoes on and had no problems at all. I realize there's no tread on the soles of Aldens at all, but how in the hell do business men walk around in smooth-bottomed shoes?

: Am I the only one who's had this problem?

No, every winter I grudgingly put away the Aldens. Alas, a Maine winter is not conducive to a treadless, hard-soled shoe, and in fact, I don't know how businessmen and women do it in other states, but most Maine folks are so practical that if their job requires dress shoes, they carry them to work and wear boots of some sort, and no, contrary to popular belief about Mainers, we don't all wear Bean boots! They do make removable instep cleats and spikes that slip over smooth-soled shoes, but I don't bother. I just wear a pair of leather boots I have with a rubber lug sole when winter hits. It makes looking forward to Spring that much more sweet!
