Whip Useage....

I've got a 10-foot David Morgan and I've used it a handful of times. But standing in an open area and cracking the whip is about the extent of my useage. As a kid I had cheaper whips and we tried to emulate everything in the movies. We swung from branches, dragged behind a riding mower, we even tried disarming other kids with 'em. Now that I'm "technically" an adult now, I've shyed away from trying any such stunts. Although I do have a 12-foot cheap whip that I've swung from, the thought of abusing a $400+ bullwhip is just nuts.

I'm curious as to what some of you other fans have done with your whips. Has using a whip ever gotten you out of a jam? Have you ever used it in self defense, be it to ward off a human attacker or one of the animal kind? Would it be successful in scaring off large animals deep in the woods? How many of you are like me? How many just take it out for the occasional crack?
