In Reply to: A CONTEST IS IN ORDER, HJ vs. PB....any takers?... posted by Fedora on February 22, 2001 at 12:55:13:

: : Here's my 2 cents, if anyone's interested...

: : your comments: Are you saying that the PB fedora has a
: : tapered crown? ----- Looks that way in the pictures I've seen so
: : far.

: : my comments: I've noticed the PB both with and without
: : the taper. The one on Indygear shows a taper and MK's pics look
: : like they have a taper, however he's told me that's just the angle
: : of the picture. On the other hand, there are plenty pics of PB hats
: : on their site sans taper.

: : -------------------

: : your comments: I have yet to see any fedora from any
: : hatter that replicated this look, except of course PB. To my eye,
: : the PB fedora looks more like the Raiders fedora than anything
: : else I have seen.------ If I had a scanner (and the computer savvy
: : to accomplish it) for the pictures of my HJ I'm sure I'd restore
: : your faith.

: : my comments: My HJ in my opinion captures the look of
: : Raiders perfectly, yet opinions vary on what looks authentic. The
: : only thing is I think the felt could be a little redder and lighter, and
: : perhaps the ribbon a smidgen darker.

: : -------------------

: : your comments: I do agree that the contrast between the
: : ribbon and hat is off, but the color of the hat is very good.----
: : Looks too light; once in the sunlight or other direct light I think it'd
: : bleach out too much.

: : my comments: Agreed on the contrast issue for the HJ,
: : although on the PB web site there are many hats all different
: : shades and contrast in one pic, so this is non applicable in the
: : case of the PB hat.

: : -------------------

: : your comments: The ribbon isn't dark enough.------ I
: : have to disagree; to me, the contrast is thrown off by the
: : lightness of the felt. While I don't know what color most of the
: : PBs have, a darker (esp black) ribbon would be too much. Just
: : like the HJ shown at IndyGear. Black looks nice, but not "the
: : look" in my opinion.

: : my comments: I have to agree with Fedora on this one;
: : to me the ribbon still needs to be darker. However, this is just an
: : opinion. In the films, the ribbon sometimes looks black, and
: : sometimes (in Cairo, talking to Belloq in the cafe) almost looks
: : the color of the hat. This could be just sand covering up the
: : darkness of the ribbon.

: : -------------------

: : your comments: I am not taking anything away from the
: : HJ, but the ones I have viewed on some websites certainly don't
: : capture the Raiders look, except one that was featured on the
: : Indy Diggs site. It was real close in color to my PBs, and had an
: : accurate shape. --------No offense taken, nor given.

: : my comments: The HJ on Indy Diggs is identical in color
: : to mine. However, the ribbon on that site seems to have been
: : replaced with another as mine isn't nearly as dark, and the
: : double bow is only doubled on the rear of the hat on mine. I feel
: : that except for the color of the felt, the Indygear HJ looks more
: : authentic than the one on Indy Diggs. The one on Indy Diggs is
: : bashed incorrectly with almost a teardrop crown instead of a
: : center crease. Also the brim on Indy Diggs seems cut
: : haphazardly and seems uneven.

: :
: : Cheers, I hope I didn't bore you guys but I love to talk about hats,

: : Indy Sean

: Perhaps it would be interesting to have the HJ owners post some pics, as the PB fedora is pretty well documented on this site lately. Then let the fans here voice their opinions as to which hat captures the Raiders look the best. Let's just have a good old fashined contest. So how about it you HJ owners and PB owners? This will be interesting. Regards, Fedora
