Yesterday I received an email from the AIA. It said that in Egypt, near the Valley of the Kings, there is a statue of Rameses II which was broken up years ago. It was presumed that an earthquake in 27 BC destroyed it, but recent work has revealed that was purposefully broken up by Christians in the early CE years. The debate is on whether to restore it, or leave it as is as a monument to intolerance. It seems that extremism comes in all flavors.
