Thanks for the info. I feel the same way about the side straps. I don't particularly care about authenticity but functionality. By attaching the side straps too low, and to the edge of the pockets makes the front of your jacket sag forward like a bloated beer belly. The whole idea of a cinch waist is to enhance movement and waist taper. If it's riding low it tugs on your hips, bunches at the waist and gets in the way. As you found, it also compromises the pleats. Thanks for your insights.
