The unexpected guest

There is something in Raiders that has always caught my eye. When Indy and Marion escape from the Well of the Souls, they push a huge stone to find the exit. Well, there is a man resting or sleeping on the left side. Indy and Marion behaves as they doens´t notice him, but he is very evident. Why is he there? Thanks.
