At ant rate, it was deleted because it was supposed to be a funny moment and SS cut nearly all funny scenes out of the film.

As for the swordsman, I thought I saw somewhere what I described.
I have not seen the Making of Raiders.
So, if that's what they say, then I guess you're right.
