On the zipper being painted brass - I figure that lasted about two pulls since it was on top of aluminum. If I were to speculate, I'd say they asked for brass, got aluminum, took a shot at making it look right and gave up. Would not surprise me if some poor seamstress were swapping out bad zippers in Tunisia.

On the Leather Concessionaires jacket - it had some details right, but others were still off the mark. I'm working up a narrative on the history of some of the fan jackets, and have yet to run it by all the folks who seem to have had a hand in this evolution. One thing Peter mentioned on the phone to me the last time we spoke was that in all the ruckus about getting the pleats to work correctly, getting the side straps correct, etc, that they "even took out the original Keppler prototype..." And me without my tape recorder on!
