: :
: : : Mr. Swales (he made the hats for the movies)
: : : Mr. Guitard (he made the hats for the TV series)

: : Max,

: : I talked to Mr. Swales while I was in London about the hat. I ended up getting the McAlpine cut to the same pattern as the poet because I felt the color was closer and the felt a better quality.

: : The McAlpine looks closer to the Temple of Doom version (slightly shorter crown and thicker felt), but what of the Young Indy hat? I heard H.J. made them, but it is a very different shape than the film version. Young Indy's is poorly shaped, but clearly has a shorter crown. Did you get any info from Mr. Guitard?

: : Thanks,
: : Indy

: I didn't see a McAlpine but from the catalog it seems that it is
: slightly lighter. I decided to go with the "Poet" though as I was
: told that the prop guys beat the hell out of those poor fedoras and
: that this is a reason why they appear to be lighter in some shots.
: As for the Young Indy Chronicles hat, you are right I was told that
: it has a much shorter crown, probably to reduce the big appearance of
: the hat in a whole. Anyway, I did not really ask further questions
: about his hat but appearantely it's still made by Herbert Johnson.
: I'm really not that familiar with the YIJC hat but it appears to be
: another modification of an existing hat (brim cut, crown shaped and
: shortened. Sorry that I can't help you anymore but I'm not really an
: expert on YIJC, I merely saw some episodes.

: Are you interested in buying one of those hats from Herbert Johnson?
: If yes you'd probably best of phoning HJ and ask for Jean Luc Guitard,
: he should be able to give you an explanation and price. Also I
: recently came across a 'Lucasfilm licensed' YIJC hat at a local hunting
: supply store. It was fur felt and about $35-40.

: Regards,
: -Max

This is kinda of track from your topic but we follow Indy's life over many years and as you know fasion and styles change over the years and Indy may have many different styles and color of hats and clothes so some varinces from the Young IJ to old IJ is a probabilty an example is the jacket it changes from movie to movie. But of al lthe Indy artifacts that are fun to find the hat and jacket are the most important and define the Indy look.
Just a Thought
