Ducked out of the office early and caught the matinee of 70mm Crusade one more time... A couple last thoughts.
* What's the deal with the uniformed Nazi escorting Marcus during the visit to the Sultan of Hatay? Harpo Marx could take this guy down on a bad hair day! I thought it wasn't until '44 or so that Hitler had to draft the old and infirm...
* When Young Indy Phoenix drops into the lion's den (hm, foreshadowing of the Berlin visit?), he frantically looks 'round for some defense; he sees the whip and yadda yadda, a legend is born, et cetera. BUT, ALSO HANGING ON THE WALL OF THE TRAIN CAR IS THE LION TAMER'S CHAIR! What if Indy had grabbed for this before seeing the whip??? The comic possibilities are endless! He would have been known as "The Man With The Chair", tying it to his belt, tripping over it, using it to disarm thugs, and sitting on it while pondering how to get across that crevasse... Imagine the temple scene: "Throw me the idol, I toss you the Ethan Allen!"
* Alison Doody, ah. I haven't been the same since I discovered that she and I are less than a year apart in age. Fata morgana? Karma? Kamasutra? Karmann Ghia?
But I digress...
PS: Hey Patterson, cool coat!
