Here is your hypothetical friend's case again:
Let's just take a hypothetical case and examine what the cause
might be for the epoxy to dry in sort of a clumpy manner. There
wouldn't seem to have been air bubbles in this ficititious occurrence.
Too much hardener? I...our hypothetical would-be craftsperson, rather,
didn't use the oven (probably a good thing?), but let it dry for over
8 hours. Also, which tube of the Devcon would be the hardener--the
clear or the amber tube? Thanks, on behalf of whomever may have this
problem in the future.

Here are my idle thoughts:
1: The resin and the hardener have to be mixed thoroughly. Also, it is
important that the the ratio of hardener to resin is 1:1. NEVER use
less hardener than resin! The hardener is always more or less
YELLOW
. If you have to mix small quantities, it is a good idea to
use small disposable graduated mixing cups (1/8 fl. oz to 1 fl. oz ;
most hobby shops carry them). And yes, you should run a test first...

2: Baking the epoxy is a GOOD thing to do. The curing process will be
greatly accelerated. However, it seems that a few people have BURNT
the resin. Therefore, I suggest to use a PREHEATED oven (not more than
170 F).

Please, let me know how that "hypothetical would-be craftsperson's"
experiments are turing out.

FG

PS: How's the car
