Since was just a kid I've always felt that the ribbon was black. Even when I got the action figure I looked and said, "That's wrong", and wrapped a thin strip of electrical tape around the hat over the ribbon. My PB has a black ribbon and about nine kinds of dust and dirt on it. This makes ALL the difference. Even after you clean it off the dust embeds itself in the grain of the ribbon and it never looks quite black again.
