It's obviously a movie critical of war, and it's more about the human condition than anything else. Maybe you should read The Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad. You will find themes like self-discovery, self-deception, civilization versus savagery, you will even find the quest.

: What is up with everybody liking Apocalypse Now. No offense or anything, but that is the dumbest movie I have ever seen. Anyone that knows anything about the Vietnam War knows that movies like Apocalypse Now, Platton, and others are offensive and derrogatory to the men and women that served their country. So what gives???
