Alden 405 Shoe sizing

Hi all
Just discovered this unique forum. I currently wear Alden 405 shoes as my daily wear shoes. They make a great shoe/boot combo and can highly recommend them for travel where you can only bring one pair of shoes, although they do cause some trouble with airport metal detectors.
I recently caught an Indy film on TV and noticed that Indy's Aldens fit slightly differently from my current pair. In the film, the laces and sides of the shoe appeared to touch each other over the shoe tongue (no exposed tongue). On my pair, when laced up tight, the sides of the shoe are about one half of an inch apart with the resulting exposed tongue. Do all Aldens fit this way or do I need a wider shoe? Any help or info would be gratefully appreciated. Thanks in advance for your time.
