Wow, that is down right pathetic. Well first you need to go above the clerk, forget the clerk, he is just some flunky who cant do anything else so he gets sent there to do that. I'm assuming you had the jacket insured for $300 right? Well then I would think that if the jacket is completely ruined, which is as it sounds, by God they should pay $300 for it. If they wont, why in the hell get insurance? Go to the local Postmaster, no one else, you want the Postmaster, explain the situation. Maybe tell him you have spoken with the retailer, who custom made this jacket, and he will not accept any damaged merchandise for any returns. And if he wont give you satisfaction, then get his bosses name and number, and so, so on etc. Try to keep a cool head, the post office is a complete joke when it comes to stuff like this. But the squeky wheel gets the grease. Maybe even consider this if all else fails. RIGHT YOUR CONGRESSPERSON! They have a certain way of getting things done at post offices. And they will be on your side! Your vote counts too much to them, unlike the post office. Another thing is, insured items are not supposed to be left without a signature. If nobody signed for it, ask why it was left then to begin with? Keep us informed and good luck.
