Browning has quit importing current production Hi-Powers as of last year, due to the insane lawsuits that have flourished here. The prices on all Hi-Powers has skyrocketed as a result. I haven't seen a Hi-Power for under $500 since early last year, when you could still pick up a nice one for $300-$350. The P-35 was introduced in 1935 so a "pre-1936" would have to be from the first year of production and this would cost a great deal of money. The very early Hi-Powers were not even available in the U.S. or in European commerce--just the Belgian military. When the Nazis over-ran Belgium they took over the plants and made that fine firearm for themselves. I'm satisfied with a couple of 1970s all-Belgian examples with fixed sights.
