They do get a bit flimsy around the ankle (which I like) the soles are screwed into the bottom and grip pretty well on a hike. The main problem I've had with them is you definetly have to get one of those insole cushions for comfort. They don't form as well to your foot as other boots without 'em. But once you break the cushion in, they really are the most comfortable boot I've ever worn. Besides my flight deck boots in the Navy (once broken in) but havin' a good boot isn't worth joining the military over. ha
Like I said, I'm always lookin' for somethin' different but this is the boot I've worn for quite a few years now. I'm tough on shoes so one pair will usually last around a year and a half.
