Jacket design copyright

It occurred to my wife when I was telling her about the jacket origin debate, that the orginal designs and patterns of the jacket would be copyrighted. If Ms. Landis owns the copyright to the original design, that would explain why Mr. Botwright needed the FS prototype to reverse engineer. If he owns the copyright, which he claims, then he does and that should be that. Just a thought.
