Hey IndyFans!

Indy French here, games specialist at Indy-Web.com (games section coming soon). I have been following the spectacle today involving the jacket issue and I would just like to make a quick statement.

IndyFan has always been one of my favorite sites on the net. It is a place where Indyfans get to communicate and share opinions and ideas and meet one another. Normally, the Indy web community is a great place to interact. Today I witnessed something that was very frightening. The Indy internet community was unravelling and taking sides against one another.

I have corresponded with many of the people who seemed to find themselves at the heart of this matter and I have this to say. Patterson personally helped me with acquiring a nice Peter Bros. hat. He has always been very kind and friendly to me. Mr. Botwright has also been very kind to me and always attempted to answer my questions with the utmost courtesy. All in all, I think the people involved in this debate are all fine individuals and I disliked seeing them in an argument.

Both Wested and FS have proven that they are committed to the Indyfan. Wested has listened and made modifications, even lowered prices. FS has proven their dedication through meticulous research for accuracy. Both are fine companies and are gems within the Indyfan community. It should not come down to Indyfans vs. Indyfans in the loyalties to their gear companies. When this happens, both the companies and the Indyfans suffer. I do not think anyone wants a lawsuit over this, especially when the risk of both companies losing jacket rights is very possible as a result of the deadly quest for truth and accuracy.

As Indy once said himself, we are on "the search for fact, not truth." The facts are that Mr. Botwright was employed to create the jackets for the original films. The facts are that FS has taken a great amount of time and care researching and recreating the famous jacket. The facts are that both products are fine and respectable items to have in one's Indy collection. What else really matters?

In short, let us please try to get back to what we have lost. Indy fans sharing information and ideas freely and without internal suspicion and infighting. We do not want it and we do not need it. The only people we should be complaining to are the people at Lucasfilm for not putting Indy on DVD, those stellar films that are responsible for the powerful and influential internet fan community that we have today.

Let's enjoy what we have built, not destroy it from the inside.

So, who's up for coming over and watching Raiders on widescreen laserdisc with me tonight?

Sincerest regards and respect to all members of the Indiana Jones Fan Community,

Michael David French (a.k.a. Indy French)
