I just wanted to throw in my two cents. I find that the best way to loosen up hats is to wear them in a few rain storms, especially arouns here in Syracuse where the acid content is nice and high. Then, make sure you either wear then until dry or use an Akubra hat jack and after two or three nice storms and regualar wear... No more problems. A nice soft hat. My Stetson Indy is living proof. It's amazing what acid rain can do...
