But it seems to differ from jacket to jacket regarding the quality of the tanned leather itself. I've been fortunate to have had, at one time or another, 4 lambskin Wested's pass through my hands. The only one still in my families hands belongs to my eldest daughter, who attends college and appears here at the forum on occasion. I'll have to say her jacket is as tough as Austin's, as it seems to just get better with use. It's also the one you see me wearing in the IndyGear staff picture. I had one that I had for a very short period of time that I wore once, and had it hang up on a car door handle (a common occurance in my old car), and it tore the sleeve like it was made of rotton cotton. It was easily repaired, but suprised the heck out of me. The next two I handled seemed to be about the same grade of leather, so once again, I really don't know if it's a curse of the material, or the tanniery that created it, but it didn't work out well for me. Regards. Michaelson

: I've heard many people express fear about the durability of lambskin.
: I'd like to know how many people have actually torn their lambskin
: jackets? I have to admit the lamb feels very light, especially
: compared to cowhide, but I like it. I live in southern California &
: have been wearing an A2 or G1 for over fifteen years. The problem I
: have is that it gets too hot to wear them here on many days. I don't
: have that trouble with the Indy lambskin. I initially had a problem
: with the idea of lamb, so I got a goatskin Indy from US Wings. I liked
: the craftsmanship of the jacket, but I had a problem with the leather.
: Normally I love goatskin. The problem was not the quality of the
: leather itself, which was good. I just thought it was wrong for an
: Indy jacket. It just didn't drape right and the texture was wrong for
: an Indy jacket. I decided to go with the lamb for authenticity's sake.
: I'm lovin' the lambskin, but now back to my question. Has anyone torn
: their jacket? Should I take extra precaution when I wear it? Should I
: get a "thrasher" jacket made out of something else? I don't want to be
: too hot. What do you all
