Definitely a G-8 style, a popular commercial style and certainly the Indy inspiration

The G-8 style, which may or may not have ever been military issue, was apparently very popular in the 30s and 40s in a number of commercial variations -- a similar jacket can be seen in "Only Angels have Wings", worn by the pilot with a scandalous past -- also a similar style jacket in the 1977 movie 'Sorcerer' about some men who drive a truck full of nitro across the jungle in South America --

These commercial jackets with no knit cuffs or waistband were undoubtedly very influencial in the Indy design --
