In the Illustrated Raiders screenplay, the script mentions that when Indy takes the gun from the Puruvian guides hand, that he extends the whip to its full ten foot length. This would lead me to think that the whip was actually and eight foot whip which would have a two foot fall.

I have had a morgan ten foot for over ten years now and while watching the Cairo street scenes, the whip appears to be an eight foot, not only by the visual length, but also by the spead at which the whip moves. Ten becomes somewhat sluggish. Coiled, a ten foot looks really good though.
