I say go for the jacket. From the perspective of one for whom prom
was half a lifetime ago, I can remember next to nothing about prom night.
Now, if you are in love with the girl you're taking and plan to marry her,
then by all means go to prom. But for me prom was just a buttload
of money spent on a night with a girl whom I never saw again. On the
other hand, you're likely to have that jacket all through college and
even beyond. Just a different point of view.
