To Fedora and/or other hat expert regarding stiffening of hat

OK, so I want to stiffen my hat's brim more, so Fedora mentioned
I should go to my local "western apparel" store, but I happen to
live in New York, and I don't think there is such a store here. At
least, it'll be hard to find. Does anyone know what I can use that's
available locally, or do I have to order this Scout stuff off the
internet and wait around for it to arrive?

I don't want to use hairspray or anything that might ruin the hat.
By the way, I called my local hat store and they said they don't
recommend putting any spray on it because it might ruin the felt.
They said I should take it to a professional but I don't want to do
that because it will cost too much, and they use heat which will
shrink the felt.

All serious input appreciated.
