I have cut a bunch of brims, and this is what I do. After getting the marks front and back, take a piece of chalk and grip it between your forefinger and thumb. You want 1/8 of an inch to extend past your finger tips, and this is what you mark the brim that is to be cut off with. Resting the tips of the fingers against the edge of the brim, position the 1/8 inch of chalk flat against the brim and mark the edge to be cut all the way from front to back. Don't let the chalk shift or the area being marked will vary in width. Then cut off what you have marked, and if you held the chalk correctly it should be an 1/8 inch. Just be sure the chalk mark is even in its width. I always take off less than 1/8 because I always have to sand to get the brim looking good. The sanding process will remove 1/16 inch easily,so generally I leave a little of the chalk line when cutting. Good luck. Fedora
