I own a 12 foot 12 plait Mark Allen, and it is by all means an excellent whip - perfect for wrapping. I also have a chweaper 8 footer, which is really versatile. I'm planning to get a 6 footer as well, just to be true to the lengths of whips used in Raiders (per David Morgan).
My advice: if you can afford only one, get an 8 footer.
If you can buy two, get a 12' and a 6' (or 8') one. You'll have the best of both worlds.
