I'm not sure about Gobler's final fate. I'd say he was killed in the final scene with the rest of the Nazis when Belloq opened the Ark.

I have a weird feeling, however, that he may have been in the staff car that was driven off the cliff during the truck chase. I'm not sure about that though. I'd have to check.
