archaeology is not always boring -- in the US, often -- elsewhere, less often -- sometimes too exciting

Not all archaeology is boring, but a lot of it is -- a lot of it takes place in very mundane areas -- next to a highway, shopping mall, or in a subdivision -- and the stuff you find in North America, for the most part, is not what you see in movies.

I did my doctoral work in the Mosquito Coast of Honduras (still do research there) and I can tell you that it is sometimes TOO close to the movies -- armed bandits, snakes, etc -- the only problem is that a real life-threatening 'adventure' is not like a movie -- you mainly wish like hell that it gets over quick --

That said, I can't wait to get back to doing archaeology in Central America --
