It makes it very easy to mark the proper amount of brim to remove if you invest the 1.20 on some Tailors chalk. It is a large flat piece of chalk which when using the brim as a guide, is easy to mark.(it also wips right off very easily).

I actually made a mark on the chalk itself to designate an 1/8" worth of chalk which rode the on brim to make the mark, giving me a nice even line to cut off. And a good pair of scissors and a little sand paper takes care of the rest.

Just make sure you center your reference lines, if not, the blending will be that more difficult. Draw them lightly and measure distance between each point on both sides.
