Realistically, I think that Indy IV can get away with a PG-13 rating, but nothing less than that. The level of violence and gore seen in the original three films should have rated as PG-13, but I guess the rating system was less strict during the 80's. You would not see scenes where faces are melted, people rapidly age and then decompose, or hearts are plucked from the chests of living people in a modern PG-rated movie. If the new Indiana Jones film is going to be anywhere near the caliber of the previous three (and we hope it will be), then it will likely have the same amount of gore. But think about this- a rating of PG-13 would keep annoying small children from ruining the viewing of a wonderful film.
