The Mummy:

There was a famous Egyptian named Imhotep. Like the movie, He was high priest to the Pharoah Joser and Sneferu(sp?) and was the architect for the Step and Bent Pyramids. But, he was a not a backstabbing adulteror. In fact he was regarded as an amazing healer. Many people flocked to see him and to be healed by him. He was almost, in a very loose way, like an Egyptian version of Christ, only about 2000 years prior. As for Hamunaptra, who knows, it could be folklore or a city made up by hollywood.

The Mummy Returns

Not too much true here. There are Pharoahs mentioned in ancient Egyptian text as "The Scorpion King" but you must keep in mind that Pharoahs were associated with animals. There was a young woman in ancient Egypt known as Nefertiti,(Rachel Weisz's alter ego, but known as Neferteri in the film) who was rumored to be very beautiful and supposedly grew up to rule egypt when her Pharoah husband died.

Of course, with the two movies there were of course the gods Anubis(my fav. egyptian god) and Horus, but in The Mummy Returns, Anubis is regarded as somewhat of the lord of the underworld, but in fact, this is not true. Osiris is the god of the underworld, where as Anubis is the god of embalming and Guardian or "gatekeeper" to the afterlife. He supposedly weighed the deceased Pharoah's heart to "the feather of truth". If the heart was equal to the feather on the scale, then the Pharoah would go on to meet Osiris and become a God. If it outweighed the feather, than he was banished to eternal damnation. What this boild down to, is that there is no Army of Anubis, but it was a cool premise none the less.
