I don't know, but my new lambskin Wested is grainy and looks a lot like smooth cowhide -- looks great - but I haven't seen the old leather

The new jacket I got was kind of thin and slick when it arrived, but after a rain or two and some use, then the Pecard's, it's like light cowhide, I think -- still cool in warmer weather though -- very nice - and I don't think it would be much more fragile than normal cowhide --
