Chattar Lal

Okay, in the scene of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom where Indy basically kicks the living daylights out of Prime minister/ Priest Chattar Lal, in the script, Chattar Lal was supposed to have fallen to a not so nice death into the fiery pit.... in the movie, he is seen off to the side of the wheel controlling the cage, it shows him lying down, he struggles a bit, the shot returns to Indy and his crew, then it shows the place where Chattar Lal was lying, its now empty, there is zero nasty Prime minister.... can anyone tell me, where the heck did Chattar Lal go??

Did anyone else notice this fella dissapear?
Did he just vanish? I'm sure he didn't - can anyone here help out?
