Probably it was a dark brown ribbon, but due to film contrast and lighting (filtered with gels), it looked more like a dusty black.
Many believe that a flat black ribbon will approximate the look of the ribbon in the film, especially when a bit dusty. I say, use whatever you think looks best.

: OK. Probably brought up a lot before, but what color is more authentic for the fedora? I have a PB which came brown but I got a black petersham and I think it might look better. Thoughts?
