I don't think the petersham is flat, both the black and the brown has a shine to it. You might try what Dakota and Greg do. They buy the stock petersham, and then dye it. Dakota mixes the brown Rit dye and the black dye in his secret recipe and the end product looks excellent. I don't know about Greg's recipe, but he thinks the petersham is too light as well. Really, I considered the black too, but have since decided that a super dark brown would be more authenic. Regards, Fedora
