Ron Liburne Just explained to me the "why" of Petersham Ribbon. It is applied onto the crown and then it is supposed to shrink tightly onto the crown of the hat while following the curves and contour of the hat without "scalloping" and curling away from the crown.

So here are some questions...

1.) Is the Petersham ribbon applied moist or damp and then stretched tight onto the crown following all the contours and then allowed to shrink?

2.) Is the Petersham ribbon applied in a virgin un-shrunkien state onto the crown, and then moistened and allowed to shrink tight onto the crown?

Comments, anyone

3.) So what should we do if we've cooked the Petersham ribbon when we've dyed it in hot water & dye solution? Should we apply the "home-dyed" Petersham ribbon wet or damp and then stretch it onto the crown and then allow it to dry and shrink tight?
