If I follow the Talmudic debate correctly; Petersham is for TOD and L/C Feds, and Raiders Feds should get the 50/50 Millirnery (Belting)Grosgrain

If I want to make a "Raiders" hat out of my Akubra Fed, I should go look for a 50/50 Cotton/Synthetic blend Millinery (Belting) Grosgrain.

1-1/2" or 39mm-40mm wide
Dark Brown or Black Brown
Probably will have to custom dye it at home...

Any ideas who might have some for sale?

Anyone else out there have comments?

Any U.S. vendors?

: Just a little steam to "iron" it and take out the wrinkles before you put it on. And it's not necessary to iron it into a curve unless your hat has a taper (which if it is a Fed or other Raiders hat, it should not).

: I recommend putting the ribbon on, and when you're bashing the hat afterwards, use a little steam and allow some to get out any wrinkles that might have appeared whilst sewin it on.

: Who would have ever thought we'd pay so much attention to detail on our fedoras and their ribbons? ;^)

: : Ron Liburne Just explained to me the "why" of Petersham Ribbon. It is applied onto the crown and then it is supposed to shrink tightly onto the crown of the hat while following the curves and contour of the hat without "scalloping" and curling away from the crown.

: : So here are some questions...

: : 1.) Is the Petersham ribbon applied moist or damp and then stretched tight onto the crown following all the contours and then allowed to shrink?

: : 2.) Is the Petersham ribbon applied in a virgin un-shrunkien state onto the crown, and then moistened and allowed to shrink tight onto the crown?

: : Comments, anyone

: : 3.) So what should we do if we've cooked the Petersham ribbon when we've dyed it in hot water & dye solution? Should we apply the "home-dyed" Petersham ribbon wet or damp and then stretch it onto the crown and then allow it to dry and shrink tight?
