Sub ride in 'Raiders' Has this ever been answered?

I'm sure with all the experts we have here, this has already been answered but I found out a few things about the U-boats that I didn't know and that would explain the 'ride.'
U-Boats rarely dove when they weren't under attack. They could travel up to three times faster on the surface rather than submerged. Even if they had dove, they rarely went below parascope level and they had some sort of 'snorkel' like deal that fed air from the surface into the batteries. So, as far as I'm concerned this isn't an issue for me anymore. Sorry, if this has already been answered but I found it all purty interesting.
PLUS - Anyone ever see the German that comes down the ladder right before they cut to Indy climbing the sub, he looks just like Harrison Ford.
