Having done a lot of crafts with varying grades of felt I would caution against sewing. It's likely to pull and separate the stronger neighboring fibers loose. Not to mention it's likely to bunch up.
If the hole is small enough: Consider putting a well-matched (color and fiber) patch of felt just slightly larger than the hole on the inside. Depending on the felt of the hat and the patch, a good craft glue can help blend the fibers together. Hope this helps, but of course I'd continue asking experienced hat professionals.
Was the hold at the pinch? If it was....DIDN'T anyone tell you NOT to grab your hat by the pinch?! GO to your room.
