Does anyone know of a solution I could use to soak an old plate that I found?

I was digging a flower bed in front of my house next to the foundation. My
house was built in 1907 by the way...as I approached the 16" mark I noticed a
white fragment from what appeared to be an old china plate. I started carefully
removing dirt and collecting the pieces of plate. I dug until I no longer found any
pieces. Now I have a small box full of fragments that I would like to fit together
in some type of display. I am now faced with finding a solution to soak the
pieces in that will not damage the blue on the plate or the gold highlights. I
know it is not worth anything to anyone but myself but I cant help but wonder
the history behind the piece. I think it will eventually be a conversation piece in
my library if nothing more. Is there anyone out there that has a formula for a
solution that would be safe to soak the pieces in? Thank you in advance.
