Painting th Webley resin prop replica

Got my Webley resin replica the other day, and it's great...really cool. Anybody know how best to paint it or treat it to make it look more realistic? I was thinking about testors model paint or something, but...knowing you guys..there's a tried and true way to make it look just right...so I'm asking first.
