35 was the limit, so I am told. My father was 38 and tried to enlist, but they wouldn't take him. Also, he was classified as "Critical Occupations", which would have hurt his chances at any age. Wars are fought by teenagers. My mother's cousin was 19 when his P-47 was shot down over Germany.
