The Jolie-posse has been seduced and their critical powers co-opted by a padded bra and lowered expectations and abused tolerance for the offal excesses of TR. As for the character being a new role model for empowered women, that laughably spurious claim is transparent and deceptive rhetoric ignorant of the superficiality, fascist entitlement tantrums and colonialist cruelty that is Tomb Raider. Yes, it's just a movie, and yes, Hollywood junk movies are, largely, intended to be "fun" (whatever that is supposed to mean in contemporary decadent and self-congratulatory America); but this advertisement directed at sub-adolescent suburban boys appears to be neither of those things as much as it is a stimulus provoking ever more indulgent consumptive behavior.
In my humble opinion.
